" Tagalog VS Filipino "
What is The Difference !

Filipino Slang language

In 1987, the Republic of the Philippines adopted the term Filipino
to refer to their National Language.
Prior to that, the term Tagalog was used. Changing the name of Language was to help encourage unity among all the varied ethnic groups distributed through out the Philippines.
Filipino is actually the Tagalog Language, a good comparison would be,
the American language based on the English Language.
They teach English in schools, not American.
The Filipino language as now called by many,
is Tagalog with sometimes lately, English words mixed in.
Most literary works and broadcasts are in Tagalog (now called Filipino)
You may even hear some English parts of a broadcast.
Basically, just as you had learned in school, you must start with the base language.
This is what all conversation will form with.
Insure when shopping for a program that you do not buy a program that has English mixed with Tagalog and says it is a Filipino language program !
You want a program that teaches you the base words and phrases in Tagalog.
The actual National Base Language taught in schools.

I hope this helps clear any confusion on Tagalog vs Filipino.
